After a busy 3 days at the CKS Paddle Fest in Buena Vista, CO a big crew headed for the mountains for some steep mountain biking. This was my first shuttle assisted downhill and was a lot like running a steep creek in a kayak. The crew worked together scouting lines, encouraging each other, setting safety and capturing the goodness in photos and video. This trail is semi legal, so you’ll have to talk to a BV local to get the beta about the its whereabouts. It is also quite easy to miss the bottom section, which is well worth finding!
My best words of advise are to bring a full suspension all mountain bike. Chris brought a full downhill rig and had some issues with a few of the short uphill technical sections. I brought an old hardtail with a blown front shock and did okay, but had to walk a few of the steep drop offs. I also had one big crash, but I really can’t blame it on the bike. I rolled into a big section without scouting and though I saw a line. It ended up not being so good and I took a big hit to my shoulder and got tons of road rash from the very sharp rocks on the trail.
All in all a very fun day and a trail that I will be back to again!
Sorry there isn’t more photos or video, but I was busy making the lines happen with my crappy little bike;) After my fall I was just trying to make it happen and keep a smile on my face, so didn’t break out the camera much.
PS- The photos and video don’t do this trail justice. It is way bigger and more technical than these images make it look!
