Australia Adventuremobile
Last year I got the opportunity to visit Australia for about 5 weeks. Most of my time there was spent doing freelance photography and writing assignments for Unsealed 4×4, but Iย also got to do some fun sightseeing with friends (Australia Zoo, Great Sandy National Park, Wentworth Falls). The opportunityย allowed me to drive a few iconic unobtanium vehicles that we don’t have here in North America, as well as get an inside view of the vibrant 4×4 touring and off-road scene in Australia. There are so many cool Australia adventuremobile!
I spent quite a bit of time in a 2015 Mitsubishi Pajero, a long weekend in a 2015 Toyota 76 Series Land Cruiser and a few jaunts in a 1997 75 Series Troop Carrierย Toyota Land Cruiser. The Pajero was amazingly capable in stock form, even though it is known as a “soccer mom” or “grocery getter” vehicle. The vehicle was super comfortable on the highway and around town, and ate up a huge amount of diverse off-road scenarios that I put it through. The LC76, with the V8 turbo diesel, is a pretty unrefined tractor. Great truck off-road, but not great on the highway, and has very few creature comforts. The older Troopy was a blast, but lacked much in the way of power with it’s small displacement non-turbo 4cyl diesel. You can read more about “Snoopy The Troopy”ย HERE.
The photos below are a pretty good representative cross section of the 4×4 vehicles that you’ll find across Australia. Bull-bars, off-road lighting and snorkels are far more prevalent in this market than in North America. You can also expect to find far more small displacement diesel 4×4 andย “ute,” or flat bed, style trucks. Enjoy this little slice of Australian 4×4 eye candy.
